MID

MID(text, start, count)

Gives characters from the middle of a piece of text, such as the level or system digits inside a task code. The start counts from 1, as in Excel, and all three arguments are required.

Arguments

ArgumentWhat to give it
textText, like [Task code] or [Name]. Blank gives blank.
startThe position of the first character to take, counting from 1. A start below 1 is read as 1; one past the end gives empty text.
countHow many characters to take. Running past the end of the text just stops there.

Examples

Formula
=MID([Task code], 2, 3)

Three characters of the task code, from the second one on.

Formula
=MID([Task code], 4, 2) = MID(Task("A1000")[Task code], 4, 2)

TRUE when the task shares the same two middle characters as task A1000, for codes that carry a zone or level in that spot.

Formula on WBS rows
=MID([Path], 1, 5)

On a WBS row: the first five characters of its path.
