SCHEDULE

SCHEDULE("name")

Another stored schedule of the project, by its name: a named revision or a scenario, read with IN exactly as the baseline is. The name must be written out as text, and it is checked when you save, so a misspelt name is refused with the names there are. Unlike a what-if, nothing is re-planned: the schedule is someone's saved work, read as it is.

Arguments

ArgumentWhat to give it
"name"The name of a revision named in Schedule history, or of a scenario, as text. Capitals don't matter. It can't be worked out from a field or another formula.

Examples

Formula
=WORKDAYS(IN(SCHEDULE("Rev 0 — submitted plan"), [Finish date]), [Finish date])

How many working days later each task finishes now than in the submitted plan.

Formula
=IN(SCHEDULE("Crew B — second crane"), [Finish date]) < [Finish date]

Tasks that would finish earlier in the second-crane scenario.

Measure (on the project)
=WORKDAYS(IN(SCHEDULE("Crew B — second crane"), [Finish date]), [Finish date])

As a measure: how much later the project finishes now than in the scenario. Negative when the scenario finishes later.

Common questions

Why is my schedule name refused?

It must match a named revision or a scenario. The editor lists the ones there are: “There's no schedule called Rev 9. SCHEDULE reads a named revision or a scenario: "Rev 0 — submitted plan", "Crew B — second crane"”. To read an unnamed version, give it a name in Schedule history first.

The editor refuses this
=IN(SCHEDULE("Rev 9"), [Finish date])

What happens to a task the other schedule doesn't have?

Tasks line up by task code, so a task that isn't in it is blank. A scenario that dropped a task reads blank on that task's row.

What if the revision is deleted later?

Formulas that name it stop passing the check and say so, and until they're fixed they read blank, with the reason "that schedule no longer exists".

Does a scenario have its own resources?

No. A scenario keeps its own activities and links but not resources or assignments, so it reads the project's.
