STARTSWITH

STARTSWITH(text, part)

TRUE when a piece of text begins with another, such as task codes that start with an area prefix. It ignores case and accents, so STARTSWITH([Task code], "civ") matches CIV-100 and STARTSWITH([Name], "ecole") matches "École".

Arguments

ArgumentWhat to give it
textThe text to look at, like [Task code] or [WBS]. A choice field works too. Blank gives blank, not FALSE.
partThe text it should start with. Empty text matches every row.

Examples

Formula
=STARTSWITH([Task code], "BDC")

TRUE for tasks whose code starts with BDC.

Formula
=COUNT(FILTER(Successors, STARTSWITH(Successors[Task code], "MS")))

How many of the task's successors are milestones by their code prefix.

Formula on WBS rows
=STARTSWITH([Path], "Building")

On a WBS row: TRUE for nodes under the Building branch, by their path.
