MEDIAN

MEDIAN(list)

Gives the middle value of a list of numbers, durations or dates, such as the typical duration of the tasks in a phase. With an even number of values it is the mean of the two in the middle, blanks are left out, and a list with no values is blank, not 0.

Arguments

ArgumentWhat to give it
listA column read from a set of rows, like SAME([Phase])[Duration], or several single values. Numbers, durations or dates.

Examples

Formula
=MEDIAN(SAME([Phase])[Duration])

The typical duration of a task in this task's phase. Unlike the average, one very long task doesn't pull it up.

Formula
=[Duration] > 3 * MEDIAN(SAME([Phase])[Duration])

TRUE for a task more than three times as long as is typical in its phase: a guardrail for tasks that may need breaking down.

Measure (on the project)
=MEDIAN(Tasks[Total float])

As a measure: the typical total float across the schedule. Complete tasks have no float and are left out.
